Delivery performance,
for example can be assessed by counting the number of orders delivered on
time, or the percentage of orders delivered on time. Additional complexity
is introduced by the concept of “on-time delivery”. If an order
is delivered early, should it be categorised as on-time? What about orders
that arrive when promised, but incomplete? What is certain is that the measurement
system of an organisation has a strong impact on the behaviour of people
within that organisation – “what gets measured gets managed.’’
In a recent study sponsored by The ACCA Conference Board, 75% of measurement
managed organisations were perceived as industry leaders as opposed to 53%
of non-measurement managed organisations and 83% of measurement managed
organisations were ranked in the top third of their industry while only
52% of non-measurement managed organisations were ranked in the top third
of their industry.
